How to Tie a Fishbone Knot

Fishbone Knot Tying Steps

  1. Beginning with the wide end on your left, cross the narrow end over to the left.
  2. Bring the narrow end under and through the neck loop.
  3. Take it down and to the left.
  4. Pass it behind the knot to the right.
  5. Take it through the neck loop from the front and down through the loop to the left.
  6. Take it through the neck loop from the front and down through the loop to the right.
  7. Take it through the neck loop from the front and down through the loop to the left.
  8. Take it through the neck loop from the front and down through the loop to the right.
  9. Tighten and tuck the remaining narrow end in your shirt behind the knot.
  10. Adjust as necessary.

About the Fishbone Knot

This not-to-easy knot is named for the fishbone shape that it resembles. Similar to the Eldredge Knot, the steps involved are quite repetitive. We suggest a solid coloured men’s tie as patterns or stripes may look a bit messy in the final knot. The Fishbone Knot is quite large when completed, so start with a longer tie.
